Trade in Lawn Mowers The key to the gas vs. electric mower is that technology has changed over the years. A push mower is the most environmentally friendly. However, some lawns are not practical for a push mower. Older gas mowers are very high pollutants, same as older cars. Some lawns will not work with electric mowers with cords -- too many obstacles and too big. (Believe me, I had an electric mower for two years.) The newer battery powered mowers are a great improvement, and with the price break, they are a great bargain. The Sate of Maryland is doing this to cut down on air pollutants, as the Federal EPA has determined that the Washington DC Metro area is not a healthy place to breath air. This is just one of many such initiatives you will see in the future to help clean up our air. The gas pump hoses that suck back gas fumes are another. My recommendation, is if you have an older gas mower which you use regularly, consider this trade. If you are like me, and have a newer, cleaner mower, and only mow their lawn when it is really needed, this is not a good deal economically, or for the environment.
